Puzzle prompt

Use every tile exactly once to make four pairs that each add up to 10. Match the large values; the small numbers identify positions. Partners can be anywhere on the board. You can solve this fixed exercise on paper or in your head.

Values at positions 1 to 8 are 2, 5, 9, 6, 4, 1, 5, 8.
Hint

Start with the 2 at position 1. Ten minus two is eight: which position holds an 8? Remember that two different 5 tiles can also form a pair.

Answer and explanation
  • Positions 1 and 8: 2 + 8 = 10.
  • Positions 2 and 7: 5 + 5 = 10.
  • Positions 3 and 6: 9 + 1 = 10.
  • Positions 4 and 5: 6 + 4 = 10.

Every position appears once. You can choose the pairs in any order; there is no required path between tiles.
